In 1918 Colorado, as the Spanish Influenza run rampant, sisters Helen and Lutie, after their tenant dies, must assume care of her daughter, which leads to murder, placing them both in danger from both the ensuing investigation and the flu.

If you enjoy mystery, romance, and historical fiction that will tug on your heartstrings, Little Souls, by Sandra Dallas should be your next read.

Be transported back in time to 1918 Denver, Colorado.  While Americans are battling the Spanish influenza, World War I is raging in Europe.  Sisters, Helen and Lutie, rent out their basement to the Streeter family.  Mr. Streeter is a terribly abusive husband and father, and in my opinion, he gets everything he deserves.

Your heart will cry out for Dorothy, Mr. Streeter’s daughter.  This sweet, innocent child has to deal with unbearable hardships and disappointments.  No child should be robbed of their innocence like this.  Your heart will also ache for Lutie.  The losses she experience force her to become stronger and more determined to protect Dorothy.

This story was sad.  There was a lot of death and abuse, but this story was also hopeful.  It was a beautiful story of sisters banding together to overcome obstacles and adversities. - Crystal, Technical Services Librarian
