August 2024: Blogging with Catherine

This year’s Summer Experience was so much fun! We always love the enthusiasm that our community brings to it. As families and educators return to the rhythms of the school year, we want you all to remember that your local library is also happy to have you during the times of research projects, sustained silent reading, and wanting to find out more about things your class talked about then moved on from.

You know you can come to the library for books, DVDs and recent magazines, but don’t forget about our online databases! Through them you can access an enormous archive of articles from trusted sources and peer-reviewed articles, providing more reliable information than Google typically turns up. Your library also gives you access to Homework Louisiana! With this service, you can use the internet to find proven tips on how to write papers and prep for major tests, practice skills, and connect with one-on-one tutors.

If your family is opting out of traditional schooling, your local library is an absolutely vital resource. That is why all of our branches will be hosting a Homeschool Hangout this month, and they will be continuing programs! Check in with your favorite location for the date and time when you will be able dig into what your library can do for you and meet up with other homeschoolers in your area.

Your library is the place to access the world’s knowledge. To step through our doors is to become open to a dizzying array of ways to learn in a friendly, pressure-free environment. We are so happy to see and help you when our doors are open. Come and visit us! - Catherine, Cataloging Associate
