SUMMER EXPERIENCE 2023

Let your true colors shine this summer at your Lafourche Parish Public Library!  Our 2023 Summer Experience is headed to a library branch near you this June and July to the theme of "Reading Colors Your World."  Discover a rainbow of possibilities this summer at your library ... the fun begins May 30!

SUMMER EXPERIENCE REGISTRATION

Registration for our 2023 Summer Experience will be taking place in person at all branches starting Monday, May 15, 2023.  On this date, you can register for the reading challenge, pick up a participation log and calendar, and sign-up for programming that requires registration.  We will also be selling Lafourche Parish Public Library logo bags that you can purchase starting on this date.
 

SUMMER EXPERIENCE PARTICIPATION

We are pleased to announce that with the exception of Page Turner Adventures and Take and Make crafts, we are returning to a 100% in-person Summer Experience this year!  This means that this summer will be packed with a plethora of programming opportunities for the entire family.  "Orange" you happy?!

Here's how to participate in the fun this summer:

  • The reading goal for all ages is to read for at least 20 minutes a day.  On your participation log, mark off every day that you read for at least 20 minutes.

  • Once you have logged reading for 5 days, come into the library to claim a prize!  Every time you have 5 days of logged reading, you are meeting a goal and get to come in for a prize.

  • Your participation goal is to attend at least one in-person library event in June and one in July for even more fun!

  • Mark off your library event participation in the boxes at the bottom of the log.

  • Complete the challenge to be entered into the grand prize drawing!  To complete, you must have at least 30 days of reading and attended at least two library events (one in June & one in July.)

  • Visit us all summer long to check out books, attend special events, claim your prizes, and have an awesome Summer Experience!

Register for Our Summer Experience In-Person at All Branches Starting May 15, 2023

Visit any LPPL branch to register for our Summer Experience starting May 15!  Pick up a participation log & calendar, & sign-up for registration-required programming.

Read Books,
Attend Programs,
& Log Your Participation to
Earn Prizes

Keep track of your Summer Experience progress on your participation log.  Try to read at least 20 minutes a day and attend two library programs this summer.

Reach Goals to Earn Prizes & Complete the Challenge to Enter the Grand
Prize Drawing

Earn a prize every time that you read for 5 days. Complete the challenge by reading 30 days and attending at least two events to be entered in the Grand Prize drawing!

SUMMER EXPERIENCE SHIRTS & BAGS

This summer, we will be selling purple "Reading Colors Your World" shirts, which feature artwork by Oliver Jeffers, inspired by his illustrations in The Day the Crayons Quit!  Quantities of shirts are extremely limited - once they are sold out, they are sold out!  Shirts are $9 each, regardless of size.  Sizes range from Youth XS - L, & Adult S - 3X.  Purchase your shirt for $9 beginning May 22 and throughout the summer, while supplies last!

This summer, we will also be selling Lafourche Parish Public Library logo bags to hold all of your checkouts.  This bag design is exclusive to our Summer Experience program - you won't find it anywhere else!  Purchase your bag for $2 beginning May 15 and throughout the summer, while supplies last!

SUMMER EXPERIENCE PERFORMANCES

Performances are one of the highlights of Summer Experience!  Enjoy interactive shows this summer from Roger Day, Crescent Circus, The Dinosaur Experience, and Animal Tales.  Performances are fun for all ages.  No registration is required.

ESCAPE ROOMS

Ages 8+ are welcome to attend.  Registration required.
In June, join us for our "On the Trail of the Culprit" Escape Room!  Embark with us on an escape room experience of color and intrigue!  Bring your team, find clues, solve puzzles, and unlock the mystery.

In July, join us for the epic conclusion to our colorful escape room experience with the "All Aboard" Escape Room!  Step aboard a pirate ship to solve a mystery on the high seas.

CODE COMBAT

Ages 8+ are welcome to attend.  *Indicates registration required.
Code Combat gaming software teaches all ages (must be able to read) how to code in several different coding languages: C++, Python, JavaScript. This innovative technology invites players to take control of an in-game hero and code their way through levels and challenges while learning programming concepts. Students embrace learning as they play and write code from the very start of their adventure, promoting active learning and a growth mindset.

We provide the ideas and supplies for you to craft at home!  Stop by your local branch to pick up your Take and Make kit to make a craft at home.  New crafts for a variety of ages are put out every Monday at all branches.  Crafts are available throughout the week, while supplies last.

Enjoy a tasty afternoon snack or meal at your library in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank.  All food must be consumed on library premises.  No registration required.  While supplies last.
