December 2023: Blogging with Katie

The year of 2023 has flown by. We at Lafourche Parish Public Libraries would like to say thank you to our communities’ continued support of our library system. Without you and your support, rebuilding our libraries and the services we provide would not be possible.

This year, thanks to our library board and Lafourche Parish government administration, we were able to open a temporary storefront branch right next to our South Lafourche branch location. The South Lafourche Storefront is able to provide library services to the southernmost part of our parish while repairs continue on the permanent South Lafourche branch. The storefront provides computer services, Wi-Fi, printing, faxing, books, movies, Take and Make crafts, a children’s story time, and a small children’s play area.

In addition to the library storefront, we also continue to have our Library-2-Geaux van visit the Golden Meadow Senior Citizens Center every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM.

With the holidays quickly approaching, each branch in the LPPL system has several programs throughout the month of December. This year, we’re having a special program at each of our branches, put on by Bayou STEM. The program is aimed at children in grades 4th-8th, and will have participants explore creating salty lights and snowy lava lamps. The following locations will host the Bayou STEM Salty Lights and Snowy Lava-Lamps program:

Raceland Library-December 6, 3:30-5:00 PM

Bayou Blue Library-December 7, 3:30-5:00 PM

Code Combat:

December 4th-10th is Computer Science Education Week. Computer Science Education Week works to inspire school age children to learn computer science and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field. At LPPL, we will be hosting Code Combat classes. This innovative technology invites players to take control of an in-game hero and code their way through levels and challenges while learning programming concepts. Students embrace learning as they play and write code from the very start of their adventure. You can call or register online for this class. See below for a list of times and dates for Code Combat during the month of December:
