November 2023: Blogging with Catherine

RAWR ... Dinovember @ the Library!

This November is Dinovember at the Lafourche Library! Expect to find displays in all our branches and be sure to check the calendar of your favorite branch to find out what programs they have on offer along with our usual autumn offerings.

Our centerpiece event will be the return of The Dinosaur Experience on November 21. There will be three showings throughout the parish. First up will be in Thibodaux at the Harang Auditorium at 10 AM, next will be at the Lockport Community Center at 1 PM, and the final event will at the Cut Off Youth Center at 4 PM.

Come see walking, roaring, trained dinosaurs bring the Jurassic experience to Lafourche Parish. If you are interested in paleontology and all things dinosaurs, you don’t want to miss this roaringly awesome show for all ages!

Honoring Our Veterans

Our country would not be what it is today without the brave men and women of our armed forces. In honor of them, your local library will be hosting events around Veterans Day to show our appreciation. Be sure to look at our calendars to find out exactly when and where they will be.

Ancestry.com: Thanksgiving Dinner Conversation is Served!

November brings with it the beginning of the holiday season and with it comes family time. As we reconnect with aunts and uncles and cousins, family history in bound to come up. November’s resource of the month, Ancestry.com is a great way to dig into the forgotten reaches of that history. From any computer in your local library, you can search an impressive database of census records, birth, death, and marriage certificates, and more. Give it a look to see how deep your roots run and find forgotten stories to share.

Happy Thanksgiving!

As is our usual tradition, all branches will close at 4 PM on Wednesday, November 22 to allow our hard-working staff to enjoy the holiday with their families. We will open again for our usual hours Monday, November 21. Before that, we will be sure to have programs help celebrate Turkey Time!
