January 2024: Blogging with Laura

Another year has come and gone - it seems like this year just flew by! As always, a lot has happened in our libraries this year.

Although our library system is still in the rebuilding stage after Hurricane Ida, we are happy to report that we are finally in the planning stages for our two destroyed branches - South Lafourche and Golden Meadow. Work on new plans have already begun for our South Lafourche Branch, which is our main branch in the south. We are looking at reworking the floor space, utilizing this amazing area to bring more services to the branch. By doing this, we will be able to have more soft seating, additional study rooms and meeting spaces, and a fun interactive children’s area. We will still have all of the things we are known for: computers, books, movies, video games, programming, and so much more!

Our Golden Meadow branch is waiting on our architects to draw up a rendering of our new library branch in the same location we were in prior to the storm, but utilizing the space to better meet the needs of our amazing patrons. Once the rendering is created, the library will be able to create another amazing space for our community!

Looking back at 2023, the library is most proud of our South Lafourche Storefront opening. Without being able to provide library services in the South Lafourche area, patrons were having to drive to our Larose Branch for  in-branch services. Once our temporary location opened, we were excited to see all our friends in the new location! The South Lafourche Storefront is located in the Tarpon Heights Shopping Center at 16249 E Main Street, Cut Off, LA 70345. The hours of operation are Monday - Thursday, 10 AM - 6 PM, and Friday - Saturday, 9 AM - 1 PM. Contact the Storefront at (985) 632-7140.

Our Library-2- Geaux Bookmobile continues to be a huge success in the southern parts of our parish. Once our South Lafourche Storefront opened, we were able to take our Bookmobile to Golden Meadow twice a week. The long term goal for our Bookmobile is to continue its services by going to more locations and possibly festivals in the future. Stay tuned!

As I look back at the library’s success this year, I would be remiss not to mention the library team who makes us so successful. We would not be an award-winning system without the hard work and dedication of our staff. It is thanks to them that we are who we are. So to all of the employees at Lafourche Parish Library ... THANK YOU! And to our amazing patrons and community - I promise to continue to bring you the award-winning services that you have come to expect and deserve from your local library system.

May 2024 be our best year yet! - Laura, Library Director
