Introduction to Computers This beginner's level class in the series covers the basics on the different components of a computer and how to use them properly. We recommend that you attend this class before taking any others. Topics covered in this class include: Monitor Mouse Keyboard Tower Using the Mouse Using Your Computer Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010 Learn the word processing basics of Microsoft Word 2010 and the skills to be able to use the program. Students must be comfortable using the mouse or have taken the Introduction to Computers course. Topics covered in this class include: The Many Uses of Microsoft Word The Ribbon Managing your files Introduction to the Internet This class provides the knowledge to safely and effectively use the internet. Students must be comfortable using the mouse or have taken the Introduction to Computers course. Topics covered in this class include: The Difference Between the Internet and the World Wide Web What You Can Do Online How to Surf the Internet Connecting to the Internet Internet Browsers Search Engines Searching Techniques Cool Websites Online Safety Social Networking Introduction to Email (Electronic Mail) This class will cover topics concerning Email (electronic mail) which is a way to send messages to others using computer connections. Students must be comfortable using the mouse or have taken the Introduction to Computers course. Topics covered in this class include: What Is Email? Creating a Free Email Account Accessing Your Email Receiving Email Sending Email Forwarding Email Attachments Organizing Your Email Facebook Basics This class will cover the fundamentals of setting up and using Facebook. Students must be comfortable using the mouse or have taken the Introduction to Computers course. Topics covered in this class include: Signing up for an account Creating Your Profile Navigating Facebook Friend Requests Messaging Chatting Settings Privacy Résumé Writing This class will teach the user how to use Microsoft Word templates and the Career Cruising database to create a résumé. Students must be comfortable using the mouse or have taken the Introduction to Computers course. Topics covered in this class include: Choosing a Template in Microsoft Word Editing the Template in Microsoft Word Saving Your Résumé in Microsoft Word How to Use Career Cruising Creating a Portfolio in Career Cruising Building Your Résumé in Career Cruising Overdrive eBook Downloading This class will demonstrate to the user how to easily download free eBooks and digital audiobooks from the library's Overdrive collection. Topics covered in this class include: Getting Your Devices and Computers Ready Setting Up an Account Searching the Collection Checking out eBooks and Digital Audio Books Returning eBooks Early Placing Holds |
